AP Essay #2

It's hard to think that being a judgmental person is something we can control. Almost every person I know judges in some way, whether it be another person, school, family, friends, or even materialistic items. The list could go on and on about the judging mentality. It's human nature and we are built to have opinions and prove that their worthy to be kept. The way a person acts or responds to an action is based on their want to be desired and safe. In The Crucible a group of girls are being condemned for doing something that other people don't know if it's true or not. It's easier to jump on the bandwagon and follow he crowd rather than stand out and be ridiculed. People are brought up to have certain morals and they act on those beliefs. The crowd that acts against the girls and the assumptions that they are witches are really going against their religious beliefs and are changing their attitudes and traditions to fit in with everybody else.

It may not be the easiest part of our minds to control, but making assumptions before knowing the facts can change the course of a situation in a matter of minutes. Whether or not believing if something that is said to be the truth, is really true, it all depends on a person's perception on a situation. If a person wants to make accusations of their being witches or witchcraft in a small religious town, they better make sure its true because word can spread fast. During these times it didn't really matter if things were said to be true or not, because there wasn't a hint of hesitation in what people wanted to believe in. Although the town was very religious and couldn't seem to have this type of nonsense going on in their community, it was spread around like a disease outbreak and couldn't be controlled. Everyone was so caught up in the idea of witchcraft being true that the most religious person in the town full forcefully went into fighting the evilness out. People were rallying against an idea they couldn't prove and it went against their beliefs and contradictorily went against god with unjust and pompous attitudes.

There are a million ways to a view a situation. It all depends on the person viewing it and what they choose to believe. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, it's just a matter of them having the ability to prove if it's a just one. Acting on a preconceived situation allows for the other side to have more time to set up a plan. It's better to have proof of something before saying that it is true because then the story can be turned into something it isn't. Having the ability not to judge an event that seems so superfluous is an ultimate struggle within itself. Our own will tries to force us into believing a notion that seems right to believe in. In all actuality that's really when we can be blindsided by the truth.

  1. I LIKED YOUR INTRO! You had a really good explanation of the prompt and answered the question in your thesis. I think you could have referenced the book in more detail and did more evidence wise because from this I can't really tell if you read the book or just git a summary offline. I like the big vocab and linkage of the right to your opinion concept in concluding paragraph. It's more focused on big ideas which i good but again I think there needs to be a little more textual evidence from the book and more in depth relation to the book rather than obscure "people." If you are going to do three paragraphs there should be a clear though process and I think you had that here although I think techniques of how used could have been better explained. Overall I would give this essay a 5-6. and the last one the same score. :) Just more evidence girlfriend!!
